Study the two photographs. In 1.5 minutes be ready to compare and contrast the
photographs:
• give а brief description of
the photos (action, location)
• say what the pictures have
in common
• say in what way the pictures
are different
• say which of the extreme sports
presented in the pictures you'd prefer
• explain why
You will speak for not more
than 2 minutes. You have to talk continuously.
No doubt
there are many extreme sports which are gaining popularity nowadays as they
help people wind down and take their minds off their daily routines. These two
pictures show people taking part in extreme sports. The
first picture depicts a man flying through the air on a motorbike in the
gym. And in the second picture we can see a man canoeing alone on the river.
I’d like to compare and contrast these two pictures.
Both pictures have some things in common.
To start with, both sportsmen look strong and fit.
Secondly, in both pictures people
are wearing safety equipment such as crash helmets, goggles and gloves. What is more, in both pictures we can
see only one sportsmаn
going in for his favourite sport.
However, the pictures are different.
Firstly, I would like to point out that the man in the 1st
picture seems to be taking part in a motocross competition while the man in the
2nd picture is probably canoeing as a part of training for a
competition. Secondly, the man in
the 1st picture is doing his sport inside as we can see a lot of
people sitting in the background while the man in the 1st picture
canoeing outside as we can see a rough river in the background. What is more, the man in the 2nd
picture is wearing thick clothing to stay warm in the cold water while the man
in the 1st picture probably requires a lightweight fabric for his
sport.
As for me, I’d prefer motocross because, first
of all, I enjoy speed greatly. One more
reason is that I don’t have to travel far to try this sport.
All in all, the choice of an extreme sport depends on one’s individual
preferences and goals.
That’s all.
