Thanks to package deals and budget airlines, more people have the opportunity to travel abroad these days.  While it is popularly believed that travel widens our horizons, some people still doubt that visiting other countries is a valuable experience.

In my opinion, travelling to other countries gives us a broader   understanding of the world. Firstly, it presents an excellent opportunity to learn about another country’s culture. For example, going to museums, cultural events and festivals when on holiday can give a unique insight into the local people and their history. Secondly, we can sample another cuisine. Trying different food means discovering new and enjoyable tastes and even learning new ways of cooking.

On the other hand, some people argue that travelling abroad does not make for greater cultural understanding. They point out that many tourists avoid meeting local people. Instead, they prefer to mix with other tourists in their hotel. They even eat the same food they would have at home.

However, I cannot agree with those who do not believe in educational value of travel (who do not consider travel educational). To my mind, it is really up to the individual to make the most of their experience abroad. It is important to choose the right kind of holiday. For instance, volunteering on an eco-holiday will teach one far more about local culture than staying at a tourist resort.

In conclusion, although there are different points of view on travel abroad, it seems to me that travel can offer a wealth of new experiences. It need not be just a home-from-home holiday with fellow –tourists. Instead, one can learn a lot about foreign culture, history and cuisine.

Leisure activities 10TH FORM

                     

A person’s choice of free time activity tells us a lot about them. Strong, outgoing personalities may prefer doing competitive sports while quieter people will choose something recreational.

Basketball and swimming, for example, both require a certain amount of physical stamina and determination if you want to do well at them. Fishing and gardening are far less demanding activities. They bring you close to nature and the outdoors. Patience is needed, however, as you don’t see the results of your efforts instantly. Activities can also be divided into social and solitary types. Some people will enjoy hanging out with friends,  whereas others are quite happy on their own reading a good book.

Whatever our choice, one thing’s for sure. Having some kind of leisure activity is important because it helps us to recharge our batteries/ to rest and relax for a while so that you feel energetic again. That, in turn, makes us more efficient in performing our daily tasks.

You know, taking photos is my favourite hobby, and I always take loads of photos wherever I go.

And this one was taken last weekend. It was Saturday. We didn't go to school, and as we hadn't seen each other for a long time, my best friend Kate and I decided to spend some time walking in the park.

In this picture, you can see us relaxing there while sitting on the grass. The day is beautiful, the weather is lovely. Kate, the girl sitting on my left, looks really happy, and she is smiling. In the background, you can see a man sitting in the shade of a big tree. It is rather hot, so we are wearing sleeveless tops and jeans because these are the most comfortable clothes for outdoor activities on such a sunny day.

The day was so enjoyable and we were so relaxed that we wanted to remember it and asked a passer-by to take this photo for us.

It seems to me that you've never met Kate before, so this is a good chance for you to get the first impression of her. Isn't she friendly? I reckon when you join us next time, we are bound to have a lot of fun.

They say, "Health is above wealth". Millions of people consider sports to be very helpful in gaining good health.

Sports benefit people in many ways. Generally speaking it is a great way to keep fit. When you play in a team, you learn how to work together to achieve a common goal. Sports also teach us to deal with both success and failure and how to balance competitiveness. Finally, sports bring people together and they help us to relax. That's why every country pays much attention to developing sports. 

Unfortunately, it is very difficult to find time to do sports regularly.  People have become too busy nowadays. There are quite a number of people who prefer to watch sporting events rather than take part in them. They are so-called sports fans. They pack stadiums during sports matches and competitions, they sit glued to the TV, and they are ready to give every moral support to their favourite sportsmen or teams.

However, a lot of people devote their spare time to going in for sports. They play indoor and outdoor games: volleyball, basketball, table-tennis, hockey, lawn-tennis. The number of participants and spectators show that the most popular games are basketball, hockey and, of course, football. A lot of people go in for track-and-field athletics, cycling, boxing, wrestling, gymnastics and so on.

Personally, I enjoy participating in many different sports. My favourites are football, swimming and tennis. I like to play football with my friends most evenings because it is a fun way to spend time together. I swim regularly and it keeps me very fit. I enjoy playing tennis as I can play with

my father or my brother.
