Facebook
In 2004 Mark Zuckerberg launched Facebook. A university
website with students’ profiles was wanted, so Mark decided to make a
site.1,200 students signed up within 24 hours! Then Mark expanded the
site to include other universities, though he faced some difficulties.
In fact, three Harvard seniors insisted that Zuckerberg used their ideas
to create Facebook. This didn’t stop Mark, though, and Facebook soon
became the biggest social networking site in the world.
YouTube
In 2005
three young men established the company "YouTube". It wasn’t easy to
post and share video clips on the Internet in those days. So they
decided to create a user-friendly website with a modern design. After
only a few months online, videos attracted more than 130 million
viewers. YouTube became an instant success. While lots of people were
uploading videos to the site, even more people were watching them.
Nowadays YouTube is the third visited website on the Internet after
Google and Facebook.
